Developed in accordance with the tactical operations needs of the Turkish Armed Forces, the SAMUR System has a similar concept and common automotive subsystems with the 8X8 PARS tactical wheeled armored vehicle and is designed to transfer all military loads, especially the main battle tank, to the opposite shore in river crossing operations with its transportation teams and bridge configurations. The SAMUR system can also be used in natural disasters such as floods.
The SAMUR System is the only 8X8 vehicle in its class, and the 8X8 powertrain system, which can be controlled from all axles with central tire inflation and adjustable ride height control features, provides unparalleled off-road driving performance and speed, especially in loose, muddy and rugged terrain. The ability to work on soft ground allows significantly less preparation for water entry and exit on river banks. The all-axle steering system minimizes the turning radius of the vehicle. The 8X8 concept has superior mobility compared to its counterparts in overcoming steep obstacles and ditches due to the shorter distance between the axles. In addition, the 8X8 powertrain system with a maximum axle load of 9 tons has significantly lower ground pressure and provides longer wheel life due to less wear. SAMUR can reach slopes of up to 60% and side slopes of 30%.
The SAMUR system has two pump jets that provide thrust when the vehicle enters water. This system enables the vehicle to perform 360° manoeuvres, sideways and forward, with pivot (Point) turns.
