$9 Million Mansion Survives Fire
The $9 million Malibu mansion owned by retired waste management executive David Steiner, 64, miraculously survived the devastating fires that ripped through Los Angeles and destroyed thousands of structures. Dubbed “the last house standing,” the mansion’s durability is thanks to its resilient construction techniques. The exterior of the structure is clad in fire-resistant stucco and stone, the roof is made of fire-resistant material, and 50-meter-deep piles are anchored into the rock foundation to resist earthquakes and coastal erosion.
When he watched footage of the fire, Steiner thought his house had been completely destroyed, but he was shocked to learn that his home had remained intact while neighboring million-dollar mansions were reduced to ashes.
